Changing the Industry Standard to LDF’s

Today’s problems in the AEC industry concerning printed drawings and distributions are one step closer to a solution though standardization. The advent of the LDF has consistently been proven as the new standard in electronic file transfer and document management. It’s inventor, AutoDesk is without a doubt the standard in the industry with their AutoCad. Just as Adobe’s PDF’s have become a standard, popular and safe way to save or send documents. So has Oce’s own proprietary software that creates LDF’s. This stands for Layered Document Format . The software is called Oce Client Tools and it saves your DWG’s to LDF’s for printing and uploading to the Oce Plan Center. This is all it does.

This software has a very narrow scope of duty. Its only for converting DWG’s to LDF’s. Its far better than a PDF’s or PLT’s or even DWG because it takes all required information to print, directly from your AutoCad program settings. Once the LDF has been created, it can’t be altered just like PDF’s.

Architects can now manage their own online plan room, populated by you, the architect. This is a good way of protecting your building project by insuring that the newest and latest drawings are available for all active participants.
